St Barnabas Church approved for funding for a security system
St Barnabas’ Church in Bradwell is visited by over 500 people of all ages, who use the church and hall. Community groups, such as Slimming World, Dance Groups, Debt Advice and more, all use the facilities which are situated in the heart of the Bradwell Community. Unfortunately the church has experienced a recent string of attacks from vandals, which have cost thousands of pounds to repair as well as causing distress to users of the building. Some of the attacks even took place when people were inside the hall. Within a three month period, the church was vandalised over 15 times – including breaking windows, damaging doors, and harassing people inside the building.
After consultation with the local police, and through discussions with the communities using the facilities, the decision was taken to install a security system. We were pleased to be able to approve the church’s application for funding. Through the Red Industries Landfill Communities Fund, over £3,000 of funding was approved for the church to purchase and install CCTV around the outside of the building. The new security system should help deter would-be vandals from any more attacks, as well as providing evidence of any attacks which can be passed to the police.
