The RED Industries Landfill Communities Fund – Staffordshire

The RED Industries Landfill Communities Fund provides funding for local community and environmental projects within 3 miles of our Landfill site (Silverdale, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 6SB) and our Waste Processing Site (Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST6 2DZ).

The Landfill Communities Fund benefits the local communities around a landfill site by providing funding support for projects to improve or enhance the local area.  Examples of projects that could be eligible for grant money include the development of a new playground, improving a changing room for a sports club, or expanding a community hall.  We accept applications for funding requests from £1,000 upwards – whether the funding you need is large or small, you could still be able to apply through the Landfill Communities Fund.

The RED Landfill Communities Fund provides funding for projects in the Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent areas around one of our sites.  The Landfill Communities Fund was set up to bring benefits and improvements for the communities around a landfill site, so your project must be available for use by the general public for a minimum of 2 days or 4 evenings a week or for the equivalent of 104 days each year.

Since acquiring Walleys Landfill in November 2016, and subsequently setting up the Red Industries Landfill Communities Fund, we have approved funding through the Landfill Communities Fund of over £57,000 in the Staffordshire area.

Projects that have been approved so far include:

  • Funding to replace and secure the perimeter fencing of a community centre
  • Funding to repair the exterior wall of a bowling green
  • Funding to purchase floodlighting and new gym equipment for a football club

There is over £100,000 of funding available to local community projects in Staffordshire

There is a significant amount of funding available for the next round of applications received.  The Landfill Communities Fund is a wonderful opportunity for community groups and organisations to receive grant money towards a project that will really benefit the local residents around our sites.  We’re proud to be based in Staffordshire and are pleased to be able to offer funding through the Landfill Communities Fund.

If your village, sports club, or community group are looking for funding for a project that will benefit the community – get in touch!  Click the button below for more information on The LCF and how to apply.

We work with the Derbyshire Environmental Trust who administer the Red Industries Landfill Communities Fund scheme on our behalf.  They can provide advice on whether your project could be eligible for funding.  If your project could be eligible to receive grant money, they will be able to provide you with an application pack to complete and can support you through the next stages of the process.  Applications are accepted all year round, and the RED Landfill Communities Fund committee meets three times a year to review applications and award funding.

The next closing date for applications is 8th September 2017.  Applicants will be informed in November, by writing, whether their application has been successful.
